Feeds, Podcast and Blog

RSS Feeds, Podcast and Blog have become integral part of businesses on internet. If you are not using them, consider them asap. I am listing the advantages of having them for your business

1) RSS Feeds: Using RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, a business can quickly and easily broadcast its corporate news and product information to customers, partners and journalists. Customers can subscribe to this and get updates instantly.

2) Podcast: Using Podcasting, a business can send their information in multimedia (Audio and Video) to their customers. Same as RSS Feeds, customers can subscribe to this and get updates instantly.

3) Blog: Business Blogs brings you and your customers closer, it increases interactiviy and informality with the customers. This will let you know more about your customers, their demands and complains.

quikmaps.com

Few weeks back I created a web-page to put my travel information on the map. It took me around 5-6 hours to complete that and it involved
1) Getting an api key from google.
2) Getting the co-ordinates of the places I want to put.
3) Writing custom code that zooms in and stuff.
4) Wrting my travel information.

quikmaps.com is really cool as it allows you to create the maps instantly by allowing you to draw pictures and labels on a google map using simple clicks and drags.

You can even email or put the map you just created on your blog or website.

Overall a pretty cool website.

Dwarf Planet ?

Pluto was recently stripped off its Planetary status. Two consistent reasons are.

- Pluto is too small and does not have enough gravitational pull to be a perfect sphere and neither to clear its neighborhood.

- Pluto’s off-center orbit intersects the orbital path of another planet (Neptune).

Astronomers wanted to get rid of the controversy/confusion surrounding Pluto because of its so many unique qualities. I’d say I was convinced with these reasonings and was ready to live with it. However, I got very curious to know that if Pluto is not a Planet, what is it?

Lot of articles were not consistent, but most said Pluto is now a “Dwarf Planet”.

A Dwarf Planet, What kind of name is that? Dwarf Planet is not a Planet ? or is it ?

I think they never wanted this controversy to end !!

Taking a bite of Aapl

Apple Computers mainly designs and manufactures personal computer and digital music player. As most of you might already have, Ipods have taken this company to another level, people love and trust this company and its products.

I like the marketing strategy of Apple, they hardly put their product on sale. They charge good money for good products and give away software to get people to buy hardware.

Since Ipod sales is the most crucial factor to its financial resurgence, I always thought what will happen to this company once everyone will have an Ipod ? Well, they will come up with new/better/cool Ipods. Now you can make Ipod part of your excercise and how about having a cell phone within Ipod (always thought it would happen otherwise)

I stand corrected, Ipod sales are still soaring and with holiday season coming up, its just gonna go high. Apple Mac computers sales are going up too and with Microsoft delaying Vista, Apple has no additional competition for its computers as well.

They have had a recent set back with stock-options grant problem that has not let this share jump crazy, but its slowly making its way to top and I think its a good buy right now.

Hoping for Appl to make me some moolahs in next 6 months.

Doctors should prescribe blogging

Blogging can be a very good medium of letting out your ideas, thoughts, opinions, teachings, frustration ..

As soon as you publish a post on your blog, you have written something for the whole world to see (may with the exception of China?)

Ever feel like something is wrong with the world (War, Terrorism, Global Warming ..), just blog it, you will feel great about it. If you are lonely, it could be a great way to connect to the world and it could surprise you that how many people actually agree or for that matter disagree with you.

I believe that worst state a human faces is being helpless, dont be..write what you think is right and should have happened.

It is ok to write about things which other may disagree but never write about things that can hurt others (eg. Religion). Somethings would always have good and bad sides and should be presented in right way or you’d be better off not writing about it.

So, here we go, a blog about blog..how deep can we go ? :-)

I got enlightened — almost

I started reading this book called “A short history of nearly everything” and the author attempted to explain some tough questions like; How was universe created? How did life came? and How did something come up from nothing ??

I must say he made a hell of an attempt to explain it but for some reason something still bothered me and did not convince me.

I commute to work by bus and it takes me about 30 mins one way. This is usually the time when I think what I want to think or not think and weirdly I dont think so peacefully ever.

Anyway, one day while commuting, I started to ponder about these questions again and all of a sudden it struck me that we do not need to go around galaxies to find the answers, we are part of this universe and the answer should be within..yep I think the answer lies within oneself.

I am like not religious at all but I started to think thats what spirituality is and meditation seems one way to do it.

I call this enlightenment because everything started to make sense and things started to fall in place. Now, obviously the most difficult part would be to find the answers from within and get enlightened all the way :-)

AdBrite.com

While it seems that every website is already making money (or atleast attempting) through Google Adsense, I came across this new site called AdBrite and was immediately impressed by the flexibility it gives the end-user.

Biggest advantage of AdBrite is that you can use it to sell spots directly on your site, and you can set your own price for these ads. Now ofcourse AdBrite would take a percentage of your income. However, its perfect for people who do not want to do legwork of finding, selling and billing advertisers themselves.

Obviously, Google Adsense is better in searching for most relevant ads, I am gonna keep my eyes out for AdBrite as I feel it will improve.

Why I hate TimesOfIndia.com

Times Of India is the leading India newspaper but what they forgot is that with power comes responsibility.

Surat City is 80% under water with worst flood ever hit this city. Thousands and Thousands are stranded at home with no food, drinking water and electricity. This is not good-enough disaster to be mentioned in the front page of this website.

Here are the headlines from front page of Timesofindia and IndianExpress with no mention of Surat whatsoever.
- Sourav Ganguly included in probables list
- Now, desis train UK call centre workers
- Indian killed in car mishap in Australia
- MTV in a row over cartoon
- For 1 McD burger, Delhi needs to slog an hr
- Meanwhile, Sonia says ‘I am proud of PM’

timesofindia.com looks more like a tabloid with juicy stories about flings, fashion, sports and hey hey, how can a website be bad if it shows pictures of semi-nude women on its main page plus a rating system ???

This site is nothing but a big joke and whats up with so many pop-ups from the leading newspaper of India ?

I think Rediff and Ndtv do a better job than Timesofindia. Timesofindia needs a major change to redeem themselves as good website and newspaper.

I am going to stop wasting my time over there and am boycotting this stupid website.
